The world renowned temples of Belur and Halebidu would be included in the world heritage map only after taking the local people into confidence, said Deputy Commissioner, Mr K H Ashwathanarayana Gowda, here recently.
He was speaking after inaugurating the district level workshop on use of Kannada in courts organised by Kannada and Culture department.
People are apprehensive about the world heritage map as they think that buildings are destroyed overnight.
However, it is not possible to take such a decision unilaterally. It is a fact that process is going on with regard to including the Belur and Halebidu temples on the heritage list.
It is equally true that there is a need to provide proper facilities to the tourists arriving to the twin city to view the ancient temples, he said.
A project to set up a large resort in Belur jointly by the tourism departments of State and Central, is in the pipeline, he said.
In view of the ensuing Mahamastakabhisheka, a number of development works are being taken up, he added.
