DH News Service Gulbarga:
'Jnanpith Award' winning author U R Ananthamurthy would be inaugurating the Eighth Gulbarga District Kannada Sahitya Sammelana which is being held at Jewargi in the district for two days from April 23.

On April 23 at 8:30 am, Chief Minister N Dharam Singh's son Ajay Singh, who is the Sammelana's Reception Committee Chairman, would be hoisting the National Flag, while Kannada Sahitya Parishat district President Veerabhadra Simpi would be hoisting the Parishat flag.

Even though the name of Mr Dharam Singh does not figure in the invitation, yet the chief minister is expected to attend the inaugural function of the Sammelana on April 23, as the Sammelana is being held in his home constituency.

At 9:00 am on April 23, Jewargi Pattan Panchayat President Jaffar Hussain Allolli would be inaugurating the procession of Sammelana President Ma Gu Biradar. Jewargi Taluk Panchayat President Mahadevi Dhori would be the chief guest.

The Sammelana would be inaugurated by Dr Ananthamurthy at 10:30 am, while Dr Ajay Singh will deliver the welcome address.

The first poets' session is being held on the inaugural day at 4:00 pm which would be presided over by Siddramappa Po Patil, and attended by 28 poets.

The second poets' session is being held on the concluding day at 12:30 pm, which would be presided over by Dr Swamirao Kulkarni, and attended by 24 poets.

Special lectures have been organised on both the days. While lectures on Ma Gu Biradar's works, and Jewargi taluk darshan would be held on the first day at 12:30 pm, lectures on health would be held on the second day at 9:00 am.

A session on Jain, Sharana, Dasa, and Janapada literature will be held on the first day at 1:15 pm, which would be presided over by Prof Vasanth Kustagi.

At 2:30 pm, a session on history of Gulbarga, which includes that of Shantavanas, Rashtrakutas, Chalyukyas, Bahamani, Surpur, and Nizams will be held, which would be presided over by Dr Sashikala Moldi. On the second day, a session on the impact of globalisation on literature, art, farming, and commerce will be held at 9:30 am, which would be presided over by Gulbarga University Law Faculty Dean J S Patil.

At 11:00 am, S S Belli will be talking on beliefs and rationalism, Prof Chandrakanth Yathnur on regional imbalances, and Devendra Heggade on problems faced by the youth. This session will be presided over by Dr M S Latte.

At 2:30 pm, M B Ambalgi, Veerayya Sthavarmath, S P Sullad, D G Ballurgi, and S N Dadagol will be talking on literature, education and society. Ms Sheela Tiwari will preside.

The valedictory function would be held at 4:00 pm, wherein Kannada Sahitya Parishat Honorary Secretary Jarganhalli Shivshankar will deliver the valedictory address. Cine star Jaggesh will be the guest.

Moreover, cultural programmes would be held after 6:00 pm on both the days.
