‘SSIs should adopt new technologies’

It is vital for small scale industries in developing nations to adopt the changing technology for the brisk growth of industrial sector, said Dr Mathew Manmal of Indian Institute of Management.
Speaking at a workshop on entrepreneurship development at Visveswaraiah Technological University here on Monday, he said a brisk industrial development of a nation would also help in the overall growth of the nation.
He said in developing nations, the small and home industries should pick up momentum to contribute immensely to increase the overall industrial production.
Mr Mathew underscored the importance of entrepreneurial skills among students and said the institutions should draw up a systematic process to train the students effectively in growing them into able entrepreneurs. The educational institutions should also regularly apprise students on the developments taking place in the field.
Dr K Balaveera Reddy said the university was focusing on entrepreneurship development and said entrepreneurship cells were being established in all the engineering colleges falling under VTU jurisdiction.
He said the university was committed to provide training on latest developments taking place in the field to its students to help them cope up with all the tasks in the industries, once they complete their courses.
A new course in entrepreneurship was being launched in the university for the benefit of students of both graduate and post-graduate students in VTU. Dr M S Shivakumar, registrar of university and K Mukundan were present.
