AISF to approach Human Rights Commission
The Communist Party of India (CPI) and the All-India Students’ Federation (AISF) have decided to approach the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) with regard to the alleged atrocities committed by the Gulbarga police on the six KPTCL Industrial Training Centre (ITC) students who had attempted suicide at the function attended by President A P J Abdul Kalam.
Budget evokes mixed reaction
The Hyderabad-Karnataka Chamber of Commerce & Industry President Umakanth Nigudgi stated here on Wednesday that the budget had nothing towards removing regional imbalances in parts of the country.
Minister urged to tour districts
Aland MLA B R Patil stated that the drinking water situation in the district had worsened, and urged the Rural Drinking Water Supply Minister S A Ravindranath, and Revenue Minister Jagadeesh Shettar to tour all the drought affected districts in the State immediately.

Chauvinistic norm
The education department has decided to amend CET rules to make it mandatory that the father of a Horanadu Kannadiga candidate should have studied in the State. Most Deccan Herald readers agree that the norm betrays male chauvinism and a patriarchal mindset. But the rule also has backers who say the rule will ensure that there will be less number of Horanadu Kannadiga aspirants and thus more seats will be available for locals.
