Talent spotted & showcased
Anup Oommen
Opportunity has a new definition in the form of the United Arts Society. The Bangalore-based society has taken the trouble to traverse the extra mile in its love for arts by launching a novel course in the sphere of performing and fine arts for artistically inclined children.

Workshop

In its bid to groom young and budding Michelangelos, Van Goghs, Da Vincis and Shakespeares, this unique course targets children in the six to 14 age bracket. The objective is to enable children gain a clear understanding of various streams in performing and fine arts and thereby make an informed choice when they opt to study them. The three-month course, which will commence in May, will be held during weekends.

Talent hunt

Apart from teaching the basics of all art forms to the students, an assessment will also be done to identify the particular talent each child possesses. Altogether 150 streams in the performing and fine arts would be taught to the students. “The society will act as a catalyst, providing an opportunity for children to recognise their inclination towards a certain form of art,” says Vineet Singh of the society. Not merely stopping with that, the society would also categorise the children based on their talents and put them across to professionals in their chosen field.

Recruitment

The society also performs an additional role by serving as an ideal platform for professional fine arts colleges to recruit talented students. Hence, it bridges the gap that separates the millions of students with creative abilities and professional colleges that scout for them. In this connection, the society invites students and representatives from professional colleges as well as those interested in furthering the cause of the performing and fine arts to an open forum being held every Sunday.

Guidance

Professionals in the field of performing and fine arts will provide the necessary guidance and support to youngsters during these sessions.

Qualified artistes, above the age of 18, who wish to groom youngsters in the performing and fine arts by serving as faculty in the United Arts Society are also welcome.

The weekly session kickstarts at 11 am at the head office located at Kochhar Institute on St John’s Road (opp. Naga theatre) in Frazer Town. If you are interested in the society and its courses, call 98864-55223/ 99163-90520.
