Sports meet for journalists on Apr 15

Sports meet for scribes will be held at National Education Society grounds behind Kuvempu Rangamandir in the city on April 15 under the aegis of District Working Journalists Association.

Water Resource Minister K S Eshwarappa will inaugurate the sports meet. President of Zilla Panchayat Sharada Pooryanaik, S V Thimmaiah of National Education Society, veteran journalists M Nagendra Rao and K N Bhat will take part in the inaugural programme. Senior journalist Pramod Mellighatti who has been selected for the State Media Academy award of the year 2006 will be felicitated on the occasion. Valedictory will be held at 5 pm in which MLA Haratalu Halappa, State Working Journalists Association President V Venkatesh, District Credit Cooperative Bank President Manjunatha Gowda, Chairperson of Shimoga Urban Development Authority S N Channabasappa, Information Officer Devarajaiah will take part.

Athletic events in the sports meet comprise of 100 metre running, 400 metre walking, short put and other events. Athletic events will be held in 3 separate sections for those within 35 years of age, 35 to 50 years and veterans can compete in above 50 years section.

In group events like Cricket and Kabaddi, scribes from rural and urban areas will compete in separate teams.
