Kunigal, DHNS: Police burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge to quell violence that broke out at Paduvagere villagein Kunigal taluk on Wednesday over a temple dispute.a controversy over an issue related to a temple. At least 40 Congress and JD(S) workers have been rounded up in connection with the violence. The police have promulgated prohibitory orders under sec 144 Cr P C in the town for three days.
Rs 5.5 crore power theft detected
Bagalkot, DHNS: Acting on a tip off, the Hescom vigilance squad detected a Rs 5.5 crore power theft in two cement factories in Bagalkot district on Wednesday.
Nirane cement factory of Nirane Groups, belonging to former BJP MLA Murugesh Nirane at Ningapur village, and Channagiri cement factory belonging to Rachappa Mallappa Kullolli at Uttur gram panchayat limits had tampered with the meter and cheated upto 50 per cent of the tariffs. Both the factories have cheated Rs 2.81 crore and Rs 2.65 crore power thefts, respectively.
The factories tapped the electric wire which was connected to the meter and tampered it in such a way that the meter ran slowly, the Hescom officials said.
Defence builders to strike work
Bangalore, DHNS: Builders working in the defence sector will strike work for a day on March 3 and protest outside the Air Force office at Yeshwantpur, demanding for sanction of higher amount due to the increase in prices of cement and steel. A protest demonstration will be held from 11 am to 4 pm and a memorandum will be submitted to the Chief Engineer (Air Force) on the day.
