Pay hike for Prez, VP & governors

India’s first woman President Pratibha Patil will also be the first President to draw a salary of Rs one lakh per month. The Union Cabinet on Thursday cleared a proposal to hike the emoluments of the Vice-President, governors, former Presidents and spouses of deceased ex-Presidents and ex-Vice-Presidents.

22 policemen killed in Pakistan

A suicide bomber walked up to policemen stationed outside the High Court in the Pakistani city of Lahore on Thursday and blew himself up killing 22 people, most of them police, officials said.

Pakistan has seen a wave of bomb attacks in recent months, many of them suicide attacks on members of the security forces but there had been none in Lahore, capital of Punjab province.

Budget Session from Feb 25

The Budget Session of Parliament is likely to start on February 25, highly-placed government sources said on Thursday, DHNS reports from New Delhi. Since the Union Budget is presented by tradition on the last day of February, this leap year, it will be on February 29, the sources said. The Railway Budget will be presented on February 27, and the Economic Survey the next day.

Delhi fog delays 70 flights

After two days of better visibility, heavy fog engulfed the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Thursday morning delaying flights and causing hardship to air travellers, PTI reports from New Delhi.
