All three belong to the dominant Vokkaliga community and are making a serious bid to woo the voters by conducting door-to-door campaigns and padayatras, besides organising group meetings.
Of the total 2,62, 278 voters, the Vokkaligas constitute nearly 50 per cent, followed by SCs, Muslims, Christians, backward classes. The constituency has a mix of urban and rural segments. Many pockets of educated voters live in Sahakar Nagar, Vidyanagar, CSC Layout, Defence Layout, HMT Layout, BEL Layout, NTI Layout, P & T Layout, Talacauvery, Tata Nagar, Karanth Nagar and Agri University Layout, and will be the deciding factor.
Youth Congress President Krishna, who waselected from the Vemagal constituency in 1999 and 2004, is testing his political waters this time from this constituency. Besides trying to woo youth, minorities, BCs and SCs, Krishna has drawn up a special strategy to not only reach out to IT/BT professionals, but also enthuse them to excercise their franchise.
Ravi, who is contesting for the first time, is concentrating on middle class localities and slums. He is making special efforts to persuade the educated class to vote. He thinks the failure of the previous Congress MLA (B Prasannakumar) in providing basic amenities, and the pro-BJP wave, will propel him to victory.
Narayanaswamy, a national level authority in panchayat raj, is trying to bank on his “impeccable” track record as Zilla Parishat President and Chairman of FCI. Narayanaswamy, who is from Geddalli village in Devanahalli taluk, is also making special efforts to woo Muslim voters.
VOTE QUOTE
I appeal to the voters to vote for a good candidate. I do not promise heaven on earth to my voters; I am only telling them that I will make an honest effort to carry out development work.
Krisha Byre Gowda (Congress)
People of the constituency are angry with the Congress for their failure to provide basic amenities and they are highly appreciative of the work done by the coalition government
A Ravi (BJP)
I have an impeccable political track record. I want to check the haphazard growth that is taking place in the area and reduce the divide between urban and rural areas.
C Narayanaswamy (JD-S)
