The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation has intesified its checks on fraudulent use of daily commuter passes in its buses.
On Monday its vigilant team has nabbed a person at Nelamangala bus stand, a commuter in Peenya 2nd stage and five persons in Hosakote who were found indulging in collection and resale of BMTC daily passes.
3 killed in accidents
Three persons were killed in two separate road accidents since Sunday evening.
An unidentified pedestrian (53) was killed on the spot when a car knocked her down in Chamarajet traffic police limits. The mishap occurred on Mysore Road flyover when the woman was trying to cross the road. The car driver, Umesh (27), has been arrested.
In another incident in Airport traffic police limits, a motorist was killed on the spot on Sunday in a head-on collision between two bikes. The deceased has been identified as Ramakumar (28), resident of Kottur hutts in Vijinapura.
The incident occurred in front of HAL School in Basavanagar. The pillion rider Manikantha (19), a resident of Kottur hutts, sustained injuries. The rider of another bike Siddhu Joy (25) was also injured.
In yet another incident, a woman was killed when a bus hit her, at Nelamangala. Police said, Jayamma (35), a resident of Nelamangala, was waiting for a bus for Tumkur at the bus-stop when a private bus from Bangalore, crushed her to death. The driver is absconding.
Guard murdered
A gang of three to four unidentified persons bludgeoned a security guard of a temple in Subrahmanyapura police limits on early Monday morning and made away with around Rs 3500. The deceased has been identified as Mari Gowda (55), a resident of Chikkasandra.
According to police, Gowda was sleeping after locking the door of Shani Mahatma temple from inside.
The accused broke open grills and locks of the rear door and entered inside the temple. They bludgeoned Gowda before he could wake up.
They broke open the hundi and lifted only currency notes leaving behind the coins. Search is on to arrest the accused, added the police.
Thief held
The Byatarayanapura police nabbed a person, who had allegedly stolen five motorbikes in the last three months in various localities of the city. They recovered four bikes worth Rs 2 lakh. The accused has been identified as Wasim (22), a resident of Nandini Layout.
The accused used to lift the vehicles parked in front of the houses in Nandini Layout, Mahalakshmi Layout, Chandra Layout and Shamanna Garden area during the nights.
The accused has been remanded to judicial custody, added the police.
