Mahatab Ministry Quits
New Delhi, May 9.
Mr Hare Krushna Mahatab, Chief Minister of Orissa, today tendered the resignation of his Ministry to the Governor of Orissa, the Congress General Secretary, Mr Shriman Narayan, announced after a meeting of the Central Parliamentary Board of the Congress. The advice of the Board was conveyed to Mr Mahatab this morning by the Congress President, Mr Dhebar.
Over 140 Killed In Rio Train Collision
Rio De Janeiro, May 9.
Over 140 people were killed and 300 reported injured in a head-on collision between two trains near here last night. A government official said the crush was due to a faulty, signal system which failed to register the arrival of a packed suburban train, allowing an empty train to enter the tracks in the opposite direction.

New Chief For House Probe Panel
Bangalore, May 9
Speaker D B Chandre Gowda is likely to appoint in a day or two a new Chairman to replace Mr Veerappa Moily, leader of the Opposition, who has declined to head the legislators’ committee to probe smuggling charge against the Chief Minister’s cousin. Sources said here that Mr Gowda would select the new Chairman only after obtaining the committee members concurrence.
