Sports Council staff-RCA tiff
A tiff between employees of the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) and the State Sports Council created an unpleasant situation, resulting in the locking up of gates of the Sawai Mansingh stadium in Jaipur, hours in efore the start of the IPL match between Rajasthan Royals and Deccan Chargers.
The RCA employees and the organisers of the IPL match, Emerging Media, complained to the traffic police that vehicles parked inside the stadium were creating problems for visitors and had them towed away.
It angered the employees of the Sports Council, also situated inside the stadium, as some of the towed-away vehicles belonged to them. In retaliation, they locked up the gates of the stadium for an hour. The situation was defused after the RCA tendered an apology.
Another power failure at Eden
The media centre at the Eden Gardens plunged into darkness for three minutes during the match between Kolkata Knight Riders against Bangalore Royal Challengers on Thursday.
The lights dimmed and then went out at 10.30 pm, making the journalists apprehensive of losing valuable data.
A Cricket Association of Bengal official claimed that the disruption was caused by a power cut.
On April 20, Kolkata was shamed when the match between the Deccan Chargers and the Knight Riders was halted for 31 minutes as lights in two of the four floodlight towers went out.
Knight Riders, Royals fined
Bangalore Royal Challengers were fined $1,000 for a slow over-rate in their IPL match against Kolkata Knight Riders in Kolkata, while the hosts also copped a $500 fine for a similar offence. The IPL authorities said in a statement that match referee Farokh Engineer imposed the fines on the teams, both of whom were guilty of slow over-rates in the match which the hosts won by five runs.
A fine of $500 is levied for every over bowled short. The Rahul Dravid-led Bangalore side were found two overs behind schedule, while the hosts under Sourav Ganguly were also one over behind the mark.
