The Janata Dal (U) has urged the Election Commission (EC) to initiate action against the major political parties, whose candidates were reportedly caught distributing gifts to buy voters.
Speaking to reporters, Pratyush Nandan, national President Student’s Union said that the parties are still trying to woo voters. “No doubt that the Commission has been doing its best to prevent the corrupt methods to win the voters, but despite this it is well known that they have been distributing gifts like sarees, jewellery and pressure cookers. EC should step up vigilance to make it a more free and fair polls,” he said.
Congratulating the EC for seizing liquor and gifts including cash ever since elections have been announced, he said that the candidates whose involvement is linked with the seize should be banned.
Nandan also said that considering the declaration of the assets by the candidates the income tax department should conduct a probe into their earnings.
JD(U) leader and Chief Minister for Bihar Nitish Kumar will be touring the state after the first phase of elections to campaign for the II phase elections.
