Kurukshetra in State
BJP National General Secretary Ananth Kumar seems to be very fond of mythology. He often refers the battle between political parties for the Assembly election as the fight between Pandavas and Kauravas.
The Pandavas, according to him, is the BJP, while the JD(S), Congress and SP together form the Kauravas. Pandavas will finally defeat the Kauravas in the battle of Kurukshetra.
So now the question arises, about who is Shakuni? Ananth Kumar says Shakuni is with the Kauravas and is aged. The smile on his face says it all.
Now, we want to know, who is Yudhishtira, Bheema, Arjuna, and above all, who is Krishna ?
Games they play!
Election candidates do all sorts of tricks to pocket voters. However here is a different type of candidate who wants to pocket voters by making the public keep his photo in their pocket at least for a few days. He is Nandish Reddy contesting on BJP ticket from K R Puram Assembly constituency.
Nandish Reddy has designed a distinct visiting card. On the one side of the card he has his picture along with his party symbol - lotus. On the other side he has given the time-table of the IPL cricket tourney.
With that he has made voters keep his photo at least for the sake of the time table in their pockets for sometime. Will the Election Commission consider his cards as publicity material or a calendar?
Candidates outwit EC
If the Election Commission is smart in imposing rules and regulations, political parties or rather candidates are smarter.
If you visit any Assembly constituency whether in urban or rural area, you will not get to see any publicity material. No cut outs, no buntings and no banners. All you see is candidates themselves trekking in scorching sun to meet their voters. You will also not see political parties distributing any goodies clandestinely. Hold on. Don't presume that voters are not getting their 'dues' from their netas or would be netas.
One such way of getting their 'dues' is by doing aarti. It has become a common sight to see women holding vermilion water in steel plates to welcome candidates. Once the candidate comes to their doorstep, then aarti is conducted. This will ensure that they get a minimum Rs 100 note.
On Wednesday, former CM Kumaraswamy was found dropping currency notes to women who did aarti to him. The EC officials were traveling behind him. But offering money to aarthi plate is part of the tradition. How can anyone raise objection?
It is over to the EC to give its judgement.
