Desi awards for 2008
Bangalore, DHNS:
"Desi Annual Awards 2007-08" for excellence in handloom sector were given away to Bellary Sarvodaya Khadi and Village Industries Sangha of Alur, Bellary district and Dastakar Andhra of Hyderabad, in Bangalore on Saturday.

The first annual Desi awards instituted by Desi Charitable Trust, Bangalore included Rs 50,000 cash, a citation, a plaque of Mahatma Gandhiji, along with continuous marketing support to the awardees’ handloom products at Desi’s two outlets in Bangalore City.

Chief Secretary Sudhakar Rao presented the awards during the inauguration of Desi’s exhibition-cum-sale of a unique collection of handloom products, slated at the Chitrakala Parishat. The trust also launched a bonus scheme to directly benefit the weavers in its associate handloom societies.

The Desi expo will host Jagalur Khadi collections, handicrafts and Dastakar’s handloom collections, apart from an attractive handloom collection of Desi’s naturally dyed cotton sarees and garments. The expo will be on between 10.30 am and 7 pm till May 6, 2008, at Gallery 1 of Chitrakala Parishat, Bangalore.
