District Congress President S Shafi Ahmed said that Sonia Gandhi will undertake election campaign on behalf of Congress candidate Dr Rafeeq Ahmed Sheikh.
Addressing a press conference he said that Sonia Gandhi will address a massive public meeting at Government Boys’ Pre-University College Grounds.
The District Congress has requested Sonia Gandhi to pay a visit to Siddaganga Mutt and seek the blessings of Dr Shivakumara Swamiji.
However, this has not been included in the official tour, Ahmed said.
A team of leaders
On May 5 a team of Congress leaders including C M Ibrahim, V S Ugrappa and N Y Hanumanthappa will undertake a election campaign. They will address public meetings at Kyatasandra at 11 am and the premisis of City Library at 11.30 am.
The same team will also conduct campaign meetings in Sira assembly constituency.
To conduct district level election campaign publicity, a 15-member Publicity Committee has been formed with Dr M R Hulinaikar as President and Somanna as Secretary.
Committe members
Congress leaders including Satish Mallanna, Revanasiddaiah, Renukamma, Jakanachari, Narayana Gowda and Shivalinge Gowda are committee members. Independent candidate Rangaraju has withdrawn his candidature and is supporting Congress candidate Dr Rafique Ahmed Sheikh.
