When you host a karaoke night and try to find king karaoke, you get KroaKing. Opus has found this unique way to allow the singers to exhibit their talent in the showdown that is in its third season now. Kroaking as it is called sees many youngsters exercising their vocal chords and giving the audience a chance to scream, cheer and have a night to remember.
“Opus was launched as a platform for arts and we are glad to see people respond and appreciate our ideas,” comments Gina, who runs the show at Opus. ”Kroaking is being hosted every Wednesday night since February 27. ” Recently, the second leg of the semi-finals was held, where four finalists were chosen by audience votes. While hordes of people - young and old - came to sit over a drink and cheer for their favourite crooner, Carlton, hosting the night, ensured that the audience sang along.
The event began at 9.30 pm and Opus regulars like Rooshad, Venkat, Neha, Alexis to name a few took the stage and had the crowd screaming for more. The contest was divided into two rounds; the first where the contestants had to sing a pre 60s number and the second where they could sing any song of their choice, which they haven’t sung in Opus before. Some of the songs like Pretty Woman , Desperado, Ol Man River and My Immortal had the audience on their feet, screaming and some probably trying to sing along. By the end of two rounds, audience was handed voting cards on which they had to circle the names of four of their favourite singers. From three weeks of semi-finals, 12 contestants were chosen for the grand finals and they will perform at Palace Grounds on May 17 where the first three lucky winners will win a sum of Rs 10,000 and a Lenovo laptop, Rs 5,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively. Short holiday packages will also be given out to the top three. What’s more? Sandeep Chowta will pick one lucky person from the twelve and will produce a single for them. Commenting on the changes from season one to season three, Gina added, ”The event has definitely grown bigger and so has the crowd. They appreciate the music and we are happy to give it to them.”
