Abstract and landscape works of fifteen artists were showcased at Alliance Francaise in the City recently

Talented artists showcased their works at Alliance Francaise on Monday as part of the exhibition hosted by Galerie Karma. Fifteen artists put abstract and landscape art on display at the five-day event.

Galerie Karma was initiated by Amitabh Bhattacherji in order to promote artists who do not usually get a chance to display their art work. It began as a shop, Abstract in Bengal, that used to specialise in framing artwork but soon passion for art led to Galerie Karma.

“The artists are no amateurs,” said Amitabh.  “This is just a platform where they can put up their paintings and prospective buyers can see them. Many of the artists make it big and leave Karma, many choose to stay on. When artists leave to take the world on their own, Karma makes room for new ones.”

With vibrant colour and unique themes, each of the paintings have strong feelings to them. While many of them deal with landscapes, painting like the` temple’ show beautiful play of light through architecture.

Some of the artists featured are Alay Kumar Ghosal, Pradip Das, Asutosh Bhattacharjee, Sanjay Manna, Subrata Sen, Sujit Ghosh and V Nagdas. Each artist has followed his own theme and each work has a uniqueness of its own that can be seen by observing the detailed and intricate effort that has gone into the works of art.

Over the last month, Amitabh has been travelling around India putting up the paintings for display at Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai. By hosting these exhibitions, he is trying to fulfil his vision of ‘Bridging the gap between the creator and the appreciator’.

All paintings, abstract and landscape are true portrayals of the artists imagination and creation. Each piece of art revolves around a theme that inspires and stimulates the artists pottential.

To art lovers, the exhibition is thier own candyshop with a variety and plethora of extraordinary piecess.
The exhibits can be viewed till May 10 between 11 am and 7 pm at Alliance Francaise.
