ART

Frozen on canvas

Magnitude Gallery will present 'Nritya' - Based on the various dances of India all through May. The authentic regional flavours of the varied dance forms of India have been captured on canvas, in the form of original masterpieces.

This is a part of the celebration of India and its various ethos as a part of its groundbreaking initiative - Rang De India.

Tribute to artist

An exhibition is being held at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat  till May 14 (11 am to 7 pm) in memory of  Late M S Chandrashekar.

Artist Chandrashekar  was a Chitrashilpi Venkatappa awardee  who had worked for Archaelogical Survey of India and UNESCO to reproduce the famous paintings from Ajanta. His paintings of Krishnadevaraya adorn the walls of Parliament House in Delhi, Vidhana Soudha and other prestigious venues.

Authentic art

Galerie Karma presents exhibition of paintings by 15 artists till May 10. The venue will be Alliance Francaise. Call 98441 29975.

MUSIC

Raga Sarita

Sunaad will present Raga Sarita, 22 ragas representing the sequence of ragas as they are sung in a 24-hour cycle. These ragas are expressed through ‘Khayal’, ‘Dhrupad’, ‘Tarana’ and ‘Kirtanam’ as well as film songs.The concept and direction is by Tara Kini. ‘Sunaad’ has been bringing Hindustani classical music to audiences all over the country for many years now. Hindustani concert

The Gokhle Society is organising a Hindustani concert on May 11 at 6 pm. Renowned singer Ravindra Sorgavi will be performing at Gokhle Society's B V J Auditorium in Basavangudi. Accompanying him will be Udayaraj Kumar on the tabla and Narasimha Kulkarni on the harmonium.

Nanda Manthana

Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandir and Meera Centre for Music Therapy Education and Research Centre are presenting ‘Nanda Manthana’, a celebration of Thyagaraja Aradhana till May 11. For details contact 26710766.

Award ceremony

An award presentation ceremony, SV Narayanaswamy Rao National Award -2008, will be held as part of the Ramnavami celebrations at Fort High School Grounds, Chamrajpet on 11 May. The presentation ceremony will begin at 6 pm, where an award will be presented to prominent violin maestro T N Krishnan. Noted dignitaries will attend the event.

DANCE

Dance away your blues

A ten-day introductory and intense workshop by Daniel Ibess Clifford will be held at Energy, Opp Karnataka Badminton Association, Behind Cunningham Road, Vasanth Nagar and at Body Kraft, 1317, Bikshu Towers, 100-ft Ring Road, JP Nagar II Phase till May 9. This will cover dance forms such as samba, salsa and cha cha.

Latin dance workshop

GPD is holding a Latin Dance Workshop in salsa and Bachata Batch at Catholic Club, Brigade Road till May 31.

Geometry of dance

Geometry‘ is a compilation of dance vignettes named after ordinary shapes communicating a variety of stories, ideas and themes. From marriage to peer pressure, politics to addiction, ‘Geometry’ has a little something for everyone. The show will be staged at Alliance Francaise on May 15 and 16 at 7.30 pm and on May 17 at 2.30 pm and 7.30 pm. Pramanavembudu Pramanave?

Pramanavembudu Pramanave? Idu Shakespearena Measure for Measure’, a Kannada play translated from ‘Measure for Measure ‘ by K V Akshara and directed by Nataraj Honnavalli will be performed by the Rangasiri troupe on May 11 at 7.30 pm. Saddu Vicharane Nadeethide

Saddu Vicharane Nadeethide, a Kannada play written by Chadrakanth Kusanoor  based on Vijay Tendulkar's play and directed by Ritwik Simha will be performed by the Antaranga troupe will be staged at Ranga Shankara on May 13 at 7.30 pm. For details contact: 9880914509.

Romeo Juliet

Romeo Juliet’  translated by G N Ranganatha Rao and directed by Vikram Kapadia will be performed at the Ranga Shankara by Ranga Shankara and Benaka troupes on May 15 at 7.30 pm. Call  9845433336.

Play reading

Fun with English

EasyLib.com, the online library is conducting 'Fun With English' - a five-day workshop till May 10 am to 11.30 am. The workshop is conducted by Chitra Baitmangalkar, the founder of Writeaway which focuses on teaching English the right way and fun way. Learn figures of speech, rules of spellings and punctuation, use of antonyms and similes  -  all this and more through games and puzzles. With an introduction to creative writing, your tutor will help you see the practical side of all you have learnt. The workshop is for children between seven and ten years.

Creative therapy

Smriti Nandan, a cultural organisation that works to promote arts and culture has announced free FUNTOO creative therapy free weekend  workshops for physically challenged, dyslectic, spastic and terminally ill children in the age group 4-12. The children will be trained in art ,dance , yoga and craft by expert therapists.
