M S Ramaiah College fest

Not as simple as it seems. The students of M S Ramaiah College of Hotel Management participated in an inter-collegiate cocktail making competition conducted in association with Joe Scholtens Lindsay a world renowned Australian bartender.

Mitali Chakravarty, a student of the II year, pursuing a Degree in Hotel Management at M S Ramaiah College of Hotel Management showed tremendous confidence combined with a true passion for bartending. She displayed the cutting edge required in making and presenting cocktails and led from the front amongst all the participants in establishing the link between the classic and modern bartending techniques.

This budding lady bartender used the technique that were required to overshadow her fellow competitors to walk away with the coveted trophy winning the first place with her cocktail ‘Femme Libre’ which Mitali dedicated to ‘All the women achievers of the world’.

The college also celebrated their annual day ‘Funday’ recently. The students and faculty went down the memory lane on March 27 and splurged in entertaining games. Both students and faculty brought out their ingenuity and youthfulness to compete. The games included three-legged races, sack races and even frog leaping. 

Interactive team games and individual talents were on focus to ensure that learning was not lost in the bargain.

This thoroughly enjoyable day was filled with fun, frolic, nostalgia, camaraderie, competitiveness and a yearning to outdo.

Fashion design course

Spectrum Institute of Fashion Technology is started admissions for 2008-09 batch for six months and one year diploma courses in Fashion Design, Interior Design, Civil Design and Short Term Diploma Courses for students, housewives, working executives and professionals starting from morning, noon and evening batches at Spectrum Institute of Fashion Technology, No. 30, 1st Floor, 1st Main Road, Opp Sheshadripuram PU College and Canara Bank, Sheshadripuram.

NITTE Annual Day

NITTE International School celebrated its annual day recently in the presence of Dr N R Shetty, Chairman of NMIT.

Children of Nursery, LKG and UKG sang a Hindi prayer song. They also danced to a Western foot-tapping number.
Certificates and awards were given away by Dr Nagaraj, Principal of NMIT. Dr Vidya Shetty, consultant, gave a power-point presentation on the school and its vision. The little ones were heard singing the Kannada State anthem and the National Anthem.

Programme

Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium will be conducting summer programmes in science for school children from class 3 to class 10 between April 15 and April 29. These are activity-based programmes. For information call 2226 6084/ 2220 3234.

Science Day

St Sophia Convent High School, Nagarbhavi celebrated National Science Day recently. The chief guest was N Venkatesh, Subject Inspector, DDPI. Vice-President  Anadakumari, Principal B K Yogesh and headmistress Mahalakshmi Yogesh graced the occasion. The students who won the medals of NTSE Exam district level, state level and national level were also felicitated. Rakshith M S of class eight was selected for the national level, Suprith S and Ramya H S of class 10 were selected for the state-level.

Cultural extravaganza

Ryan International School, Bannerghatta celebrated its annual day on March 1. It was a vibrant cultural extravaganza where the audience was taken into the theme of the Ryan fantasy land.  A Narayan Swamy, ex-MLA Of Ankal Taluk, Daya Prahlad, Assistant Manager of Reserve Bank of India, film actress Deepa and cine director B Ramamurthi presided over the function. The cultural programme started with a beautiful opening chorus followed by the ethnic dances of different states of India which highlighted India’s rich cultural heritage.

The crowd also enjoyed the play ‘The Pie and the Tart’. The tiny tots of Mont III dressed in black gowns and caps were given certificates by the chief guest and guest of honour.

Cultural evening

Mother’s Touch School, LIC Colony, Jayanagar, celebrated its annual day for students of Class 10. The occasion was graced by Dr Rajaram Subbian, an international psycho-social consultant. He encouraged the students and told them to invest their full potential in life. All the outgoing students were given certificates and a token of remembrance by the Principal Nalinakshi Sannappa. The formal function was followed by a colourful, cultural programme by the juniors and the teachers.

Seminar on Hindi poetry

Department of Hindi and Hindi Teachers’ Association, Bangalore University, jointly organised the seminar at ‘Yavanika’ State Youth Centre, in which three senior Hindi professors and three of those who have rendered yeomen service in the field were honoured. They were Prof Saragu Krishna Murthy, Prof T G Prabhashankar ‘Premi’, playwright  G J Harijit, B S Shanta Bai, Dr Ramasanjeevavaiah and Ramachandra Rao. The keynote address was delivered by Prof  Aravindakshan of Cochin University. Prof M Vimala, Chairperson, Department of Hindi and Prof T C Siddaramesh, Secretary, Hindi Teachers Association, Bangalore University organised this national seminar. Dr Vinay Kumar Yadav anchored the programme.

Graduation day

SSM Public School celebrated the graduation day for the class 10 students. The day was marked by ‘Jyothi Daan’ by the chief guest T M Vijayabhaskar, founder chairman Prof M R Doreswamy and Director Radha Doreswamy. In his guest speech, Vijayabhaskar emphasised the need for the children to decide their career option at the high school level, since it is a decisive period. He called upon the children to be humane and grow up as good citizens. Prof Doreswamy stressed on the need for value-based and quality education.

Books for the library to the 12 Government schools which are adopted by the PES Institutions, were distributed which was sponsored by the PES Institutions.The function ended with a brilliant entertainment programme ‘Samskriti’ by the PESIT team `

Mantech 2008

CMR Institute of Management Studies held Mantech 2008, the three day inter-collegiate fest recently. The theme this year was ‘Saras’. The fest signified its association with learning and fine arts. It was also aimed at enlightening the youth on the importance of water which is the fastest depleting resource. Saras is not only a fest but it is also an enormous effort to highlight CMR Institute of Management Studies’ commitment and responsibility towards society. Twenty colleges and more than 200 participants took part in the various events held by the various departments. The grand finale of ‘Saras’ was held on March 29.

Science exhibition

A state-level science exhibition for students was organised by the Karnataka Science and Technology Academy, Karnataka Rajya Vignana Parishad, Directorate of College Education and  KLE SS Nijalingappa College. The exhibition was inaugurated by Prof U R Rao at S Nijalingappa College.

Tennis time

Bowring Institute is conducting a tennis summer camp for boys and girls from April 16 to May 25 at the Tennis Courts of the Institute. Those interested may contact  Somashekarappa on 97419 11232.

Young ‘Shishyas’

Children’s workshop

Environment Support Group has announced a summer workshop for children in the age group of 10-13 years from April 21-25. The five-day workshop aims at sensitising children to the quality of the urban environment that we live in, with special focus on issues relating to water, waste management etc. The workshop will be held at 105, East End B Main, Jayanagar, 9th block. Class for toddlers

Kidzee Kaggadasapura, a franchisee of Zee interactive learning system Ltd, offers classes for toddlers from one year eight months to six years. With a play group, nursery, LKG and UKG, it encompasses teaching methodology involving complete interaction where children are encouraged to collaborate and help each other. Kidzee Kaggadasapura adopts the philosophy of learning by doing, which also means practical knowledge will be gained by kids.
