Wipro will hire 35,000 for facility in TN SEZ

Wipro Technologies, global IT services business of Wipro Limited, announced in Chennai, on Monday, that it was expanding its Chennai operations in a big way.


Wipro is setting up an 80 acre new facility in Sholinganallur-Elcot Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and it has additionally invested in a 90 acre facility in Mahindra city SEZ in the city to augment the business growth expected in the next 5 years, the company said in a press statement issued here.

Seating capacity

The Sholinganallur-Elcot Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is being set up to accommodate 35,000 seats. It  is already operational and currently seats around 2,500 employees and expected to increase it by 5,000 to 7,000 this year.
Incidentally, including the current facility the information technology  major now has six offices in the Chennai alone, the statement pointed out.

The current Wipro Chennai operations services customers encompassing diverse industries such as Telecom, Banking Enterprise, manufacturing, retail, travel , media, technology and transportation.

Apart from having Centres of Excellence (COE) teams in broadband, retail, banking, wireless, consumer electronics and a Japanese competency lab, the development centre also has a global command center set up to support multiple customers through a unified service desk, the statement added.
