CMC presents Rs 61 lakh surplus budget for City
DH News Service,Tumkur:
Amidst protests, allegations, heated arguments and counter-arguments, Tumkur CMC presented its budget for the year 2008-09.

It is a surplus budget showing Rs 103.36 crore income and Rs 102.75 crore estimated expenses. The surplus amounts to Rs 61.25 lakh.
However, opposition BJP members alleged that it is a deficit budget and the facts and figures shown in the budget are far from reality. They held a protest in the meeting hall in front of CMC president and urged for the postponement of budget presentation.
They withdrew their protest only after CMC president Aslam Pasha and vice president Vaale Chandru requested them to allow for the budget presentation assuring that provision will be made for any corrections in the budget later.
Even the ruling party Congress members had many points to make.
There were a host of complaints regarding water crisis in wards, corruption in the accounts department, menace of stray pigs and dogs, delay in development works and many other related issues.
Highlights
Construction of Upparhalli-Shettyhalli railway over-bridge, construction of more than 600 houses for the poor, drinking water, comprehensive development of 22 villages that have joined CMC recently, solid waste management, development of pavements and gardens, Hemavathi water supply 2nd phase scheme and special packages for SC/ST communities - these are the highlights of the budget approved by CMC president Aslam Pasha.
