“More people want to settle into the city and the rural India is taking a back seat. This distinction is clearly creating a divide between rural and urban India,” opined former Chief Minister S M Krishna. He was speaking at the inauguration of the Outpatient department at the R L Jalappa hospital in Kolar.
“The absence of the basic facilities in the rural areas is propelling the residents of the villagers to the cities and towns. The rural areas are now almost being deserted because of this,” he opined.
He also added that doctors and engineers are donot want to serve in the rural areas and prefer urban postings.
Even those with a masters degree in the field have little aptitude towards research. He also urged that the medical students especially should consider research as part of their syllabus.
“We have to find solutions to the various medical problems that people are facing today and students have to think of research as an option,” he added.
He also expressed his regret that his administration was unable to give sustained effort for development work in the Kolar region and its problems including KGF gold mine problems, water problems and irrigation facilities.
Reforms
The land reforms act that was introduced by former Chief Minister Devaraj Urs brought a revolution among the farmers and Hucchamasri Gowda was a revolutionary of the first order.
K H Muniappa who presided over the programme also spoke on the occasion and added the medical students have a great role to play in the society .
“By opening a medical institution, the R L Jalappa institutions have ensured that the education of the rural people in the field of medicine is a possible dream,”said the Minister.
Victory under SMK
He also added that the Congress party will be strengthened under the leadership of S M Krishna and will romp home with a thumping victory in the forth coming elections.
The President of the Devaraj Urs Medical University and Member of Parliment R L Jalappa also spoke on the occasion and said about the various problems that were faced by the institution when they were building the hospital and medical college in the region.
