While 25 of these projects costing Rs 240.27 crore, will come up under the Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme (IHSDP), the remaining seven, costing Rs 510.27 crore, will be under the Basic Services to the Urban Poor (BSUP).
These projects have been approved by the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee and Central Sanctioning Committee.
Under the IHSDP projects, 13,053 dwelling units will be constructed with the Centre contributing Rs 145.76 crore and the State paying the rest, the sources said.
In fact, the first installment of 50 per cent of the Central share approved, amounting to Rs 72.88 crore, has already been released.
On the other hand, under the BSUP scheme, five projects will be implemented in Bangalore and two in Mysore, involving construction of 21,846 dwelling units. Here, the Central share will be Rs 272.97 crore, while Rs 237.30 crore will come from the State.
Fund released
The first installment of 25 per cent of the Central share, amounting to Rs 68.24 crore, has been released for the projects.
The IHSDP was launched by the Prime Minister in December 2005 with a view to ameliorating the conditions of urban slum-dwellers.
The existing Valmiki Ambedkar Awas Yojana (VAMBAY) and the discontinued National Slum Development Programme (NSDP) have been subsumed in IHSDP with the aim of having holistic slum development with a “healthy and enabling” environment by providing adequate shelter and basic infrastructure facilities to urban slum-dwellers.
The programme covers all the towns except the 63 mission towns/cities covered under the Basic Services for the Urban Poor (BSUP) under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
