New Delhi, DHNS:

According to figures submitted by the Women and Child Development (WCD) Ministry in Parliament the highest percentage of physical abuse was reported from special homes and observation homes which together come to 70.21 per cent.

Quoting a study commissioned by her Ministry, WCD Minister Renuka Chowdhury told Rajya Sabha that 62.73 per cent boys, who were interviewed for the report, said they were subjected to physical abuse in institutions as compared to a corresponding 37.27 per cent girls.

The highest percentage of incidence of child abuse among boys was reported from Mizoram (85.71 per cent) followed by West Bengal (85.37 per cent) and Assam (81.52 per cent). High incidence among girls was reported from Rajasthan (81.40 per cent) followed by Goa (77.78 per cent).
