The four-crore voters of Karnataka are all set to exercise their franchise in May and decide who should be their representatives in the Legislative Assembly. Political parties do have their calculations before giving the electorate a choice. But what do you want as voters?

Deccan Herald is inviting its readers’ reactions on the following issues vis-a-vis the coming elections to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. Email your opinion/suggestions along with your photo to dhvote@gmail.com

*Should the present crop of old leaders give way to GenX to infuse youthful zest into our polity?
*Would you back non-political candidates who can bring in freshness to electoral politics?
*Should political parties also consider fielding technocrats/professionals as candidates to infuse some expertise in administration?
*Should there be a minimum educational qualification for contesting elections?

Ideas, experience go together

Both old and young should work hand in hand. The old crop of leaders have patience and experience while the new generation will have ideas. Both are necessary to run the nation. Technocrats as well as professionals should be taken in. But it should be ensured that the candidates should have the minimum educational qualifications.

Dr Amith Kukke, Bangalore

Fight it like applying for job

Whoever is interested in politics should first be educated, be patriotic and fight elections like applying for a job. It is a job to safeguard  the nation, to improve the economy of the nation, and a job to understand the values and necessities of the citizens. There should be an age limit to enter the politics and retire from the politics.

Mohammed Alnisar Choudhury, OPH Road, Bangalore

Politicians fail to lead State

Karnataka’s politicians have failed to lead the State towards development. Assurances are made but not implemented effectively. Despite their 30-40 years of political journey, the politicians have neglected this region.

Karnataka need leaders like APJ Abdul Kalam, who served the nation honestly.

Ideal age for politicians

People in their ripe age, with expertise, experience, mind maturity, health, strength and courage, clear vision, all at their peak, should be given a chance to work as legislators.  The ideal age can be fixed between 45 and 65 so that one gets maximum three to four chances to get elected and after that he should pave the way for new and young legislators.
