Be a haute bride!
Shilpi Madan
Summer weddings bring with them a fresh charm and a melee of fabric restrictions! Heres how you introduce the cool factor in the scorch season

It is the dilemma that confronts every bride: What colour of lehenga to opt for the pheras, whether to go for the svelte gown or an indo-western cocktail fusion for the sangeet and how many handbags and mix and match ensembles to stock up on. Summer weddings bring with them a fresh charm and a melee of fabric restrictions. Leading designers offer a sneak peek into what's hot this season.

If you made note of Aishwarya's skimpy cholis in the lavish gold souk of Jodha Akbar, you know that the focus this season has shifted to the back, instead of cleavage popping necklines. Cut aways, swarovski stringed backs and shell lined contours make waves this season. Traditional motifs like the paisley and atypical versions of zardosi embroideries emerge in ravishing new avatars in bridal wear. Fashion designer Arjun Kapoor brings to life old world decadence wrapped in contemporary elegance through his bridal creations this summer. "For the pre wedding functions, soft and sleek silks, textured crepes, flowing georgettes and ethereal chiffons make for great ensembles.

Striking colours

For heavier creations, satins in striking colour schemes morph into traditional yet glamourous saris, fish tail skirts and spectacular corsets." Corsets rule is their stunning avatars spangled with crystals, embroidery, tulle and lace. Combined with long skirts, cigarette trousers and lehengas, they lend a contemporary twist.

Jewellery makes a statement through gold cut bandhan jadau sets reminiscent of Rajasthan. Rubies and emeralds breeze forth in a classic arrangements. "The cue is to focus either on the neck piece or on the earrings. Too many focal points create confusion," cautions jewellery designer Amisha Khanna.

Avant garde shoes make your tootsies more than just fashionable. Footwear comes in a simmering array of trimmings including semi precious stones, fur accents, suede streaks and even feathers. Rina Shah of Rinaldi ushers in a startling international profusion of gladiator sandals, cute peeptoes, embellished wedge heels, pretty chappals and formal slip ons studded with semi precious stones.
