Ban animal sacrifice: Jains
DH News Service, Bangalore:
The Jain community has demanded that the State Police implement a court order on prevention of animal sacrifice.

Speaking at a rally organised here on Friday to mark the 2607th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Mahaveera, Ashok Bhandari, President, Jain Yuva Sanghtana urged the State police that order be implemented to prevent animal sacrifice at religious places and temples of Karnataka.

Expressing concern over the killing of animals, he said every year innocent animals are killed in the name of religion, which is a violation of animal rights.

He also urged the Union Railway Minister to name the Bangalore-Rajasthan train as Vardhamana or Mahaveera Express.

DGP and IGP, K R Srinivasan who inaugurated the event appreciated the effort of Jain Community to serve the society and said that they are an inspiration to other people.

Earlier, hundreds of members of the Jain community took out a procession rally to mark the day of peace and non-violence.

Several Jain organisations and hospitals distributed food and clothes on the occasion. Jain Charitable Hospital at Tilak Nagar conducted a free diabetes check-up camp.
