Know your constituencies
BTM Layout, which is an abbreviated version of Byrasandra, Tavarekere and Madivala, is a famous area located near the Information Technology (IT) corridor in Bangalore.

This new segment is one of the most preferred locations by software professionals as it is located close to the Electronic City and the Tech Park that houses several IT majors and other firms. With a total electorate of 2,12,808, BTM Layout as part of the erstwhile Uttarahalli constituency.

Comprising wards of Lakasandra, Madivala, Koramangala, Ejipura and BTM Layout, this constituency has a strong hold for the Congress as three of these wards had Congress corporators in the previous BMP Council.
Lack of a proper underground drainage system, rampant encroachment of lake beds, haphazard growth and mushrooming of unauthorised layouts are the common features of this area.

The infamous housing quarters for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) located in Ejipura is part of this constituency. Though several blocks of this quarters have collapsed claiming several lives, the authorities are yet to demolish the whole structure and reconstruct it. This issue is likely to have an impact as the decision of slum population is likely to be a deciding factor.

While the former Jayanagar MLA R Ramalinga Reddy is a strong contender from the Congress here, the BJP has fielded Prasad Reddy. Former Koramangala corporator B Mohan is likely to contest on a JD(S) ticket.

GOVINDPURA

This new constituency comprising parts of Binnypet, Rajajinagar and Uttarahalli, is full of revenue layouts.
This constituency with predominantly urban characteristics, comprises wards of Rajajinagar Industrial Area, Marenahalli,  Govindrajnagar, Amarjyothinagar, Moodalapalya and Chandra Layout. The unique feature is each of these wards were located in different constituencies earlier.

Like other constituencies, this segment too is not free of problems. Irregular garbage disposal, bad roads and shortage of drinking water are the common problems in most parts.
While Rajajinagar Industrial Area was in Rajajinagar constituency, Moodalapalya and Chandra Layout were part of the erstwhile Uttarahalli constituency. Amarjyothinagar and Marenahalli were included in Binnypet, which no longer exists now.
This has created a spurt in the numbere of MLA aspirants from this area and the former Congress MLA V Somanna is one of the prominent contenders.
Though H M Revanna from the Congress is also aspiring to contest from here, it is most likely that Somanna will be given the ticket.
While the BJP has fielded Ravindra from this constituency, there are more than six contenders from the JD(S).
Prominent among them are T M Rangegowda, Mariyappa, Ramappa and Indira Jayaram.
