“Clinging on to fishing occupation will be difficult for Mogaveeras. Hence, they must pay attention for education and discover new avenues for themselves,” said Business entrepreneur G Shankar.
Addressing the gathering after laying the foundation stone for Mogaveera Community hall and medical centre on Sunday, Mr Shankar said that the Government has given permission to start a centre to conduct studies on the status and conditions of the Mogaveeras living in the coastal belt from Ullal to Byndoor. The reports from the centre will be submitted to the Government.
He said that there are many people who will come forth to lay foundation for these buildings but there are not many who think about development of the community. He called upon the Mogaveeras to lead the community by thinking progressively.
Mr Shankar recalled the days when he was studying and said that Mumbai Mandali had provided him monetary help at that time with the help of which he could scale success that he has now.
Former MLA Lalaji Mendon said that it is time that Mogaveeras prove their capabilities in other fields too the way they have proved themselves in their caste based occupation of fishing.

Though a host of ministers like Minister for Labour Oscar Fernandes, former MP B Janardhan Poojary, former MP Manorama Madhwaraj, former MLA Yogish Bhat, Krishna J Palemar, MLC Ganesh Karnik were supposed to participate in the programme, none of them were present.
