Harsha DK journos assn president
The New Indian Express Mangalore edition Chief Reporter Harsha has been elected president of the Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists’ Association, here on Sunday. Mr Harsha defeated Vijaya Karnataka Reporter Mohammed Arif by just 2 votes to win the elections. While Harsha polled 37 votes, Arif secured 35 votes. The other office-bearers were elected unanimously—Mr Ramakrishna, Chief Reporter, Samyuktha Karnataka (vice president); Mr Guruvappa N T Balepuni, Senior Reporter, Hosa Digantha (general secretary); Mr Pushparaj B N, Chief Reporter, Varthabharathi (secretary); Mr Yogish Holla, Chief Reporter, Kasturi TV (treasurer); Mr B Raveendra Shetty, Reporter, Vijaya Karnataka; Mr K Anand Shetty, Chief Reporter, Hosa Digantha; Mr Sudhakar Yermal, Photographer, Vijaya Karnataka; Mr Srinivas Nayak, Reporter, Udaya TV; Mr Vinayak Bhat, Vijaya Karnataka; Mr Lancy D’Souza, Cameraman, E-TV; and Mr Jagannath Shetty Bala, Chief Reporter, Jaya Kirana (all Executive Committee members).
Paurakarmika’s plea for police action
DK District Paurakarmika’s and Class IV Employees Union has appealed the police to take immediate action against some accused for assaulting civic workers at Mahakalipadpu recently.
Addressing a press meet in Mangalore on Wednesday, Dalit Sangharsha Samiti district unit convener S P Anand said though a case has been registered in Mangalore South (Pandeshwar) police station on April 7, no actions have been taken against the accused so far.
Free medical camp held
New Mangalore Port Trust organised a free medical camp on April 6 between 9.30 am and 1.30 pm at Govt Primary School at Krishnapura in connection with the celebration of 117th birthday of Dr B R Ambedkar. The medical team of NMPT Hospital headed by Dr S Sampath Kumar, Chief Medical Officer (in-charge) conducted the camp for the benefit of local people. Medical officers Dr M M Nirmala, Dr Savithree P, Dr Raghavendra Swamy and Dr Imran and para medical staff of Port Trust Hospital participated in the camp. Around 332 patients ailing from various diseases were examined and free medicines were distributed, informed a press release.
