Gowdas must pay attention towards education

“The members of the Gowda community must pay more attention towards education and thus must adorn high positions in the society and thereby work for the upliftment of the society and the community,” said former MLA K G Bopaiah.
Addressing the gathering at the centenary celebration of Kodava Gowda Vidya Sangha at General Thimmaiah stadium here on Sunday, he said that any community needs education to progress in the society.
“Any community which lays emphasis on education, carves a distinct place for itself in the society. Though our profession is agriculture, we must all excel in education to march on the path of progress,” he added.
Mr Boppaiah said that Kodava Gowda Vidya Sangha has decided to start a professional course as a token of memory of centenary year celebration. He said that the Sangha will build the institution at a cost of Rs 50 lakhs in Madikeri or nearby area.
He informed that to start the course they need help from the Government and in present competitive world, which course will be more viable, that course will be started soon after discussing over with the seniors.
He called upon the Kodava youth to take up competitive exam as at present there are not even a single IAS or IPS from Kodava community.
A cricket tournament was held as a part of the celebration between the Gowda families, inaugurating which, Marathon athlete Hosoklu Chinnappa said that sport has no disparities of caste, creed, class etc. Sports is all about competitiveness and hardwork.
Kodava Gowda Samaja President Paikera Anantharam said that everyone must co-operate with the Gowdas who have decided to build a professional college.
Inaugurating the celebration earlier, Kumbugowda Ganapathi from the Kumbugowda family said that the youth must retain the culture and traditions that were build by the ancestors.
Kodagu Gowda Vidya Sangha Centenary Committee President Hosuru Ramesh Joyappa presided over the programme.
The cricket tournament will be held till May 3 and about 104 teams are exepected to participate in the tournament during this period.
