The reshuffling of the electronic voting machine (EVM) serial numbers was held on Sunday at Officer’s Club in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Navin Raj Singh and the representatives of various political parties.
On the occasion, the voting machines were handed over to the election staff of the specific constituency.
The programme was organised as about two months ago, some of the candidates expressed their fear and some alleged that the votes can be manipulated in the electronic voting machines which work with the help of a chip.
The DC informed that there are absolutely no scope for misappropriations of any kind with the electronic machine but the programme was held for the satisfaction of the candidates.
He said that the serial numbers have been shuffled for the first phase and the machines will be dispatched to the respective constituencies where the Tahshildars will revise it again. With this exercise, nobody would be able to trace which machine has been sent to which area.
He said that the machines will be sent to the respective Taluk offices where they will be sealed and kept in complete security where nobody will be allowed to even touch these machines without permission.
About 1,149 voting machines have been readied for the elections this year, which is 25 per cent more than the district’s machine requirement to ensure that spoilt machines are replaced on the day of voting.
