Calzaghe downs Hopkins
Britain's Joe Calzaghe recovered from a first-round knockdown to defeat Bernard Hopkins by split decision in a light heavy-weight bout in Las Vegas.
Calzaghe was awarded the bout on two of the three judge's scorecards, with him winning it 115-112, 116-111, in a closely-fought battle in which the 36-year-old showed little of his famed prodigious punch output n the first two rounds.
India succumb
to China
Hosts China defeated India 2-1 in the semifinals of the Asia-Oceania leg of the World Junior tennis championship, reports UNI from New Delhi.

After Digvijay Singh Mehta went down to Chinese Zhao Cai 4-6, 4-6 in the first singles on Friday, Ronit Bisht brought India back as he beat Xin Gao 6-3, 6-1 in the second singles. But the Indian duo Digvijay and Ronit handed the tie to China when they lost their doubles match 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 to Gao and Jun Nan Tao.
Patrick creates history in Japan
Danica Patrick made history on Sunday as the first ever female Indy Car winner, taking the Indy Japan 300 race in her 50th start in the series, reports AFP from Motegi, Japan.
The American covered 200 laps over the 2.5-km Twin Ring Motegi oval in one hour 51 minutes 02.67, beating Helio Castroneves of Brazil into second and Kiwi Scott Dixon into third.
Chopra slips to tied 60th place
Daniel Chopra shot a poor three-over-par 74 to drop down to tied 60th place after the penultimate round in the $5.5-million Verizon Heritage golf tournament in Hilton Head Island, reports PTI.
After rounds of 69 and 72, the Indian-born Swede needed a strong third round to make his way up the leaderboard. Instead, Chopra returned his worst card of the week and his three-day total of three-over par 215 leaves him in an unflattering position in the leaderboard. Defending champion Boo Weekley (198) fired a six-under-par 65 card to soar to the top, opening a three-shot lead over fellow American Anthony Kim (67).
Chiragh United pip Pune FC
Chiragh United rode on their captain Theodore Sunday Wrobeh’s brilliant hat-trick to beat Pune FC 4-2 in the round-robin match of the ONGC second division I-League on Sunday, reports PTI from Guwahati.
Wrobeh found the target in the 13th, 58th and 64th minutes before team-mate Shankar Oraon added another one in the 67th minute. For the Pune side, Emeka Ogbonna Hyginus (43rd) and L Raman Singh (85th) were the goal scorers.
Vijay finishes eighth
India's Vijay Kumar shot an excellent score of 580 to finish eighth in the 25M rapid fire pistol event at the International Sport Shooting Federation World Cup, reports INAS from Beijing.
Vijay shot 286 in the first stage and followed it up with a superb 294 in the second, which also included a perfect series of 100.
The other Indian in this event Pemba Tamang finished 13th with a score of 576 (287+289).
Alifirenko Sergei of Russia won with a score of 786.7 (586+200.7).
