SLOGAN WRITING CONTEST
Readers, now its your turn to set an agenda for political parties by coining a slogan for elections.

Play politics, win fab prizes!

Till now, politicians had the job of sloganeering. From ‘garibi hatao’ to ‘roti, kapda aur makan’ to ‘India Shining,’ we have heard it all. Readers, now it’s your turn to set an agenda for political parties by coining a slogan for elections. Give us your slogan (one liners) in English, Kannada or Hindi and win a prize. The more original and imaginative you are, the better your chances of winning an attractive prize. Deccan Herald will publish the best ten slogans with authors’ names. The first three will win attractive prizes. Mail your slogan to us with your photo at dhvote@gmail.com

New faces, please

Today, all political parties field the same old faces who have been there for decades. Some parties want winnable candidates, though the background of such candidates is debatable. They field the kith and kin of old guards, just to get sympathy votes. Some field people from the world of glamour,  just to increase their bench strength.
Once elected, many of these people never venture out of their web to hear the voice of the common man. Under these circumstances, one cannot expect any changes in governance. We only just use our voting rights and the voter cannot do anything to change.

S M Nanjappa, Bangalore

Change the system
The whole system of selecting the candidates and the process of conducting elections in India should be changed. This is a long drawn process and needs amendments in the laws. My views for India to become a great nation by 2020 are: The party system should be abolished.  A committee consisting of eminent persons should be formed for each State.  This committee should advertise to select professionally qualified candidates to make them chief for every department. These people in turn should select their deputies purely on the basis of professional qualification.

  A V Ramanan, Bangalore

Rational approach needed

Given the political scenario in Karnataka, what is required is a more rational and pragmatic approach from political parties. In their choice of candidates political parties must consider the experience and expertise of veteran leaders with a clean image.Technocrats and professionals could be considered, but they should have an aptitude for serving the masses. Past performance of parties, their vision and track record of candidates  should be considered by an enlightened electorate.

Dr PM Mathew, Bangalore

Blend experience, enthusiasm

To have a new reawakening of our national pride, we as voters need: The experience and expertise of the old to be blended increasingly with the energy, dynamism and the vision of the young for the future; The candidates' clarity of thought and ideas and their managerial abilities to push the agenda forward.
Non-political candidates lack the synergy, clout and back-up to do this effectively and efficiently, unless backed by proven populist support. Technocrats/ professionals of proven ability for development, should be inducted by parties as candidates in key areas o deliver the claims of the manifesto effectively and efficiently.

Democracy has failed us .But this is the best system available as on date.Atleast we have the choice to select the better thief (not always).
The number of constituency must be reduced to half.Ther must some time exclusivly alloted for opposition and the CM must reply point by point.20 eminent persons must be selected by Judiciarry and Press and they must be made MLAs/MPs without Voting rights .They must be given enough time in assembly for debate.
Ther must be some qualification for MLAs.

I agree with Mr. A V Ramanan though we need to sit down and fine tune the democratic system that we've today.
Democracy has completely failed in India and this was not the vision of our leaders who got us independence from the British.

We have to abolish this party system because this kind of politics is forcing political players to prey on peoples' weakness and use money & muscle to cling to power.
We defenitely have to change the system.
