Disclosing this on Tuesday, Police Commissioner N Achuta Rao said Kavala and five of his gang members were nabbed along with a cache or fire arms and lethal weapons. More than 20 cases including attempt to murder, cheating and extortion were registered against the prime accused.
Acting on a tip off that the rowdy and his associates were waiting in a Scorpio SUV to murder a rival gang leader Praveen, when the CCB sleuths intercepted the gang. The gang tried to attack the team, but were overpowered by the sleuths.
The arrested are Vijayakumar (36), Rakesh (24), Mahesh Kumar (27), Nanjunda (25), Srinivas (24) and Subash Prasad (37).
Three more of the gang members Tirukumaran, Raja and Shiva are absconding. Police have seized a revolver, five bullets, five daggers, three mobile phones and the Scorpio. Madiwala police in whose jurisdiction, cases were registered against the gang have also seized 10 firearms, 95 live bullets.
Vijayakumar, during interrogation, revealed he had procured the weapons from Uttar Pradesh to eliminate his rival Praveen as he anticipated an attack from him. The Deepak Singh murder case has also been solved with Vijayakumar’s arrest. Police said Deepak Singh, a friend of Vijayakumar, had parted ways with the latter. Vijayakumar learnt that Deepak had plotted to kill him. With the help of one of his friends, he got Deepak killed on March 7.
