“To ensure that every person has adequate financial assistance, ‘For development foundation’ has distributed almost Rs 12 crore in the last two years to the self help groups. Eight such groups function in Kunigal alone” said the managing trustee of the institution, M N Salimutt.
He was speaking as the chair person of the the meet of the self help groups ‘Sangama - 2008’ that was held at the fair grounds in Kunigal recently.
“Creation of self help groups, training for the members, financial assistance, initiatives to create wealth and capital and the development of small scale industries are all the priorities of the foundation,” he said.
He also added that the foundation was not just interested as acting as a money lending body and was looking at strengthening the social groups.
“Some of the banks are also cooperating with us in our endeavours. The SHGs also work towards helping the members with their everyday needs and they should avail these advantages,” he said.
Senior official of Canara Bank Shivashankar M Rao, who inaugurated the meet and said that the foundation has played a very important role in strengthening the society. Kunigal sericulture department’s extension officer K N Ravi also spoke on the occasion. Loans were distributed to the eligible people in the meet.
