ZP Member Sathi Sundaresh said that though the Government has brought in Tribal and Forest Inhabitants Forest Rights Act on January 1, the officials are reluctant to implement the same.
Communist Party of India organised a meet on Tuesday demanding for the implementation of the Act. Addressing the gathering, Mr Sundaresh said that the Act will provide strength to the forest inhabitants and tribals.
“According to the Act all those living in the National Parks and reserve forest areas for the past 75 years or from the past 3 generations are entitled to get the title deeds for the lands. Since the farmers are providing bribe, the officials are delaying the implementation of the Act,” he added.
CPI Leader P V Lokesh said that forest inhabitants themselves must form apolitical committees at the Grama and Hobli level and thus get ready to fight for their rights.
