The Opposition party of Mangalore City Corporation may go to court against the “illegal” move of the ruling party of presenting and passing its annual budget in the absence of two third majority.
Hinting at this during a press meet here on Monday, the Opposition leader Harinath said the Opposition members would seek opinion of the legal experts and go for proper steps at the earliest.
The budget was presented in the House where the stading committees had not been ratified. They should have confirmed the committees in a general meeting, in advance of the budget meet.
Moreover, after Opposition members boycotted the meeting, there was no 2/3 majority to approve the budget, he pointed out, explaining why the MCC’s move was illegal.
The revenue through house tax has been indicated to be Rs 1500 lakh in the budget which is Rs 650 lakh more than the previous year.
It is clear that the city corporation is going to impose SAS which is going to be a great burden on the residents, Harinath analysed with instances.
He also expressed his doubt over why the Mayor has not yet assigned the case of misappropriation of money through forging the files to the Lokayukta.
Former mayors such as Shashidhar Hegde, K Ashraf and councillor Nagendra were present in the press meet.
