A leopard was rescued and left into a reserve forest after continuous efforts for five hours at Aroor village near here on Monday night.
The leopard was crossing a road to enter a forest at Alunje by around 7 pm that climbed a tree when it saw a vehicle approaching.
By the time localites gathered, and the leopard tried to ran into the forest. Unfortunately, it was entangled in a noose.
However, Udupi range forest officer Sathish and personnel, accompanied by local youth tried to catch the leopard with the help of a net, which was used to catch wild pigs till 9 pm. Later, the only cage in Udupi range lying at Padubidri was brought in the midnight, and the leopard was put in that by 1 am. Later it was left into Somshwara Reserve Forest.
