RUDSETI to conduct 500 training programmes

Ujire-based Rural Development and Self Employment Training Institute (RUDSETI) has plans to conduct around 500 employment-oriented training programmes for unemployed youth in the new financial year.
Briefing the institute’s past programmes and future plans at a press conference here on Tuesday, the RUDSETI Governing Council member Parthasarathy, who is also a Syndicate Bank General Manager, said they also had ideas to evolve wage-based training programmes in the days to come.
As many as 16,059 unemployed youth have been trained under entrepreneurship awareness programmes during 2007-08, among whom 47 per cent are women. A total of 12,332  trained youth started their own enterprises, who constitute 68 per cent of the total number, he informed.
Since its inception, the institute has facilitated around 67,238 candidates by providing loans aggregating to Rs 263.77 crore. It has also organised 43 innovative programmes and 10 skill upgradation camps so far. Meanwhile, as many as 33 rural development programmes were organised to train 1,681 participants, Mr Parthasarathy said.
New institutes
The RUDSETI opened three new inter-state branches in the previous year: Baran in Rajasthan, Berhampore in West Bengal and Hajipur in Bihar. As a matter of pride for the institute, Rajasthan Administrative Services examination comprised a question on RUDSETI concept, he stressed.
One of the past trainees of the institute K C Amin has been selected for the prestigious Citi Bank Best Entrepreneur Award recently. The Union government has released Rs 3.65 crore towards infrastructure development in the 5 centres of the institute at Jaipur, Agra, Bhubaneshwar, Bhopal and Anantapur, he added.
Special projects
With the help of World Bank funded Sujala watershed project, the Chitradurga branch conducted 54 entrepreneurship awareness camps benefiting 1,820 SHG members. The institute units in the State entered into an agreement with the Panchayat Raj Department for setting up computer centres under Suvarna Gramodaya Yojna. Moreover, the RUSETI has also involved in setting up apparel training centres in Brahmavar, Chitradurga, Bijapur and Bangalore units, Mr Parthasarathy said.
Syndicate Bank regional head K U Shanbhag, Canara Bank Deputy General Manager M M Kudva and the institute Executive Director K N Janardhana were present.
