Middle-order batsman Paras Dogra made an undefeated 97 and left-arm spinner Vishal Bhatia took four for 46 to help Himachal Pradesh defeat Jharkhand by 30 runs and move into the quarterfinal of the all-India inter-state one-day tournament for the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
At the Port stadium on Tuesday, Himachal Pradesh made the most of skipper Ajay Mannu winning the toss to reach 259 for eight from their allotted 50 overs, and then bowled East Zone runners-up Jharkhand out for just 229.
Sandeep Sharma (52, 75b, 7x4) and Mukesh Sharma (51, 45b, 8x4) set Himachal on the way with a 75-run (84b) second-wicket association, which was built on later by Dogra (97 n.o., 104b, 6x4, 2x6) and Manvinder Bisla (20). The two added 53 (79b) for the fourth wicket.
Jharkhand's reply suffered a jolt in the very first over when left-arm pacer Ashok Thakur trapped Subroto Gosh pulpably in front of wicket.
The only time they appeared to be mounting a fight was during the third-wicket alliance of 72 (85b) between Ishank Jaggi (55, 67b, 7x4) and the talented Saurabh Tiwary (40). But once Bhatia got into his act, wickets tumbled in a rush as Jharkhand were shot out in the final over, well short of their target.
