M N Vidyashankar, who was hitherto Officer of Special Duty to the Office of Chief Electoral Officer, on Tuesday assumed charge as the new Chief Electoral Officer. He succeeds R Ramaseshan, who opted out under VRS.
Vidyashankar’s new assignment as the CEO has come at the time when the State is scheduled to go to polls. “We are ready with delimited electoral rolls as per the election commission’s directions,” he told reporters. Meanwhile, sources in the OCEO said Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami and two other election commissioners are likely to visit Bangalore this weekend to oversee the preparations for elections.
The CEC is likely to hold a meeting with DCs of all districts during his visit.
