Thanks to the timely effort by Block Eduction Officer K S Mani, official Mallappa and workers present at the spot, an accident was averted and the question papers delivered to exam centres on time.
The jeep carrying question papers to Devanur and Sukharayapattana centres left the Kadur treasury at 8.30 am on Tuesday.
But the roads near the railway gate on Kuppalu-Devanur road was blocked due to road repair works.
Officials decided to take the risk and the vehicle went over a stone slab covering a huge pit. But it got stuck on the track.
Meanwhile, they were told the train was leaving Banavara. With the help of the workers, officials managed to lift the vehicle and remove it from the track. The officials succeeded in delivering question papers ten minutes before commencement of the exam.
Block Education Officer Mani told Deccan Herald it was a hair-raising experience.
“But it is a matter of relief the students could receive the question papers on time,” he added.
