Prohibitory orders were clamped under CrPC Section 144 in the town following a clash between Congress and BJP workers here on Monday night. Miscreants burnt a car and damaged four vehicles. One person was injured. BJP booth-level convention, scheduled for Tuesday, was cancelled due to the incident.
Police sources said cases were booked against 34 persons and 27 persons, including former MLA Renukacharya, were arrested.
Later, 12 BJP workers, including Renukacharya, were released on bail. The remaining 15, including former ZP president H B Manjappa , were remanded to Judicial custody till April 15 and shifted to Davangere sub-jail. BJP workers' decision to cook food in the ground where Kanaka Jayantyotsav was held here on March 30 was said to be the reason for the clash.
The car belonging to BJP worker B G Basavarajappa was charred and four vehicles, parked near Renukacharya, were stoned in the violence. BJP and Congress leaders lodged separate complaints with police.
