Usually it is thumbs up for K Chandrashekar, who had represented this constituency in the dissolved assembly. But even such politician has to face embarrassing moments.
Cong candidate Chandrashekar had tough time in answering a voter of Kalidasa layout in Srinagara during a gathering here. An elderly man alleged that every other area of the constituency is developed but not the area where he lives. “Main road of Kalidasa layout is in bad shape. We supported you last time. You did not consider our demand. Then why should we support you this time?” he said.
Chandrashekhar tried to convince him saying that he constructed a storm water drain at a cost of Rs 2 crore.
“I have improved all roads in the constituency. I could not develop this road as the Assembly was dissolved one and half years before the completion of the five-year term,” he said.
By and large the public in Basavangudi feel that the only mantra that can lure voters here is development works. Vishwanath, a businessman in Hanumanthanagar said “No candidate can woo voters here either by making promises or offering gifts. All that we need is good roads, regular water supply and what else. We will elect who can offer these basic needs in the coming years”, he said.
Over the years the face of Basavanagudi Assembly constituency has changed. It has got good roads, sidewalks, parks and playgrounds. But there are people who term works done by Chandrashekhar are insufficient.
“For many days we have been demanding a public toilet near Maruthi temple. Those running business establishments near the temple have to walk all along the way to Srinagar to answer nature call”, said Gopal a tailor settled near Maruthi temple in Hanumanthanagar.
However, Chandrashekhar is still confident of winning for the second consecutive time.
