A constituency with more educated people and old Bangaloreans, Jayanagar constituency has demands other than basic amenities.
Says H S Prakash, JP Nagar I phase: “CVS system of property tax will be a major issue throughout BBMP area. Other issues are road congestion, especially near 4th Block complex and providing more buses during peak hours. Water supply problem is rising in some areas which need to be checked by improving ground water resources.”
Kiran, who owns a jewellery shop in Jayanagar 4th Block, says: “Parking and traffic woes need urgent attention.”
Lakshminarayan, JP Nagar III phase resident: “One strong party on ruling side and one in opposition alone will work well. Coalitions hamper administration and development works due to unnecessary political interference.”
Though members of all parties are busy with initial rounds of familiarising with voters, the actual campaign is yet to be launched in Jayanagar. Due to prohibition on buntings and posters, the scenario is dull although this has made citizens happy.
BJP candidate B N Vijayakumar is yet to file his nomination papers, though he has begun some campaigning. Congress and JD(S) have delayedly cleared names of former corporator of Gurappanapalya K S Samiulla and realtor Narayan Raju, respectively.
BJP member S K Nataraj who had filed nominations as rebel candidate is expected to withdraw. Gulshad Ahmed from BSP and three independents, all of whom are residents of areas under other constituencies, have filed nominations. They are K Ramesh of Bannerghatta Road under Bangalore South, Khader Ali Khan of Jayanagar 6th Block under Padmanabhanagar and Appu Rao Gulvadi of Kamakshipalya under Rajajinagar. Many have taken nomination forms, including another BJP member C K Ramamurthy, but have not come back.
Congress workers were found leafing through voters’ list although many of them felt the delay in finalising candidate was affecting campaigning.
Jayanagar Returning Officer B M Vijayshankar informed that two squads are making rounds everyday to check unauthorised buntings, posters and banners and other violations. Arun Kumar Yadav, Joint Secretary to Union Home Affairs Ministry will take charge as observer shortly.
In Dasarahalli Dasarahalli Assembly constituency has not yet seen any serious campaigning except for some leaders’ home visits. Except JD(S) candidate Andanappa, nobody has filed nomination yet.
I fully agree with Mr.Prakash that CVS is a core issue to be taken up during this election. I am also a resident of Jayanagar and I am going to be hit badly if CVS as proposed is implemented. To create a problem the authorities are not collecting the property tax unde SAS giving it a legal color. The Corporation authorities shall think of the plight of poor citizens in paying the tax under CVS which is five to six times higher than the tax payable under SAS. THe media should the rescue citizens
