Swabhimani samavesha in Puttur; Hundreds take part
Prove it, if I am corrupt:Shakunthala Shetty
DH News Service,Puttur:
Let the people who have been making allegations of corruption against me come to Mahalingeshwara temple and prove that I am corrupt, said former MLA Shakunthala Shetty.

Addressing the ‘Swabhimani Karyakarthara Samavesha’ here on Tuesday, Ms Shetty said that some of her very own people have been alleging her of having property in Puttur and other region made out of corrupt earnings.
“The allegations are not made by the opposition but it is done by some of my own people. These allegations are believed neither by the party members nor by the media. I still live in a old house of mine with the same self-respect and values,” said Ms Shetty who recalled that she started off her journey with BJP 25 years ago.

“With the humble beginning of pasting party posters on the roads, I grew to the level of BJP national secretary. Unfortunately, after becoming the MLA, I had to face allegations from my own people,” she said with damp eyes.
She said that during her 40 months tenure as the MLA she has approved 8 high schools in the constituency, 3 PUC colleges, 2 Degree colleges, one Morarji Desai residential School and 2 hostels apart from several other developmental works.

She said that since some people have been telling that they will publish a list of mistakes and corrupt practices committed by her after April, she called upon the party workers to answer the list as she does not know what mistakes they have been talking about.

The programme was presided over by former MLA Ram Bhat who said that some people have stooped to the lowest levels possible to gain glory keeping BJP as their shield, which must be protested.
He urged the voters in the constituency to caste their vote with great deal of responsibility.

Former MLA Vinaya Chandra questioned if doing works in the matter of 40 months, which never happened in the constituency in the past 40 year was the mistake committed by Shakunthala Shetty.
She further said that the BJP members need not fear to support Ms Shetty directly as it is not an activity against the party.

Party workers   raise funds
During such political conventions, it is normal practice that the party workers are gathered by the leaders by paying for their commutation etc. But the scenes at Swabhimani Karyakarthara Samavesha held under the leadership of former MLA Ram Bhat was quite different.

The party workers arrived at the venue on their own expenses.

The most surprising scene which manifested the party workers love for Ms Shakunthala Shetty was that they went on collecting donations among themselves to pay for Ms Shetty’s election deposit on an announcement. The party workers expressed their anger against the other faction in BJP which has indulged into making allegations against Shakunthala Shetty of corrupt practices.

BMS Taluk Okkota President N Purandar Bhat, Puttur BJP former President K K Venkatkrishna, APMC President Banari Gopal Krishna Bhat, Vishwa Hindu Parishat senior leader U Poovappa and others were present.
