The Vogue Mystique Designer Awards ceremony was where beauty met brains. The shortlisted apparel and jewellery designs of the final year students of the Vogue Institute of Fashion Technology were showcased at the ceremony and the brains behind the most beautiful designs were awarded.
If Rasna’s silver, red and black fabrics and dice shaped ear loops drew their inspiration from Gambling capital Las Vegas, Palak Kumari’s chiffon and silk salwars for which green, red and purple were used, drew their inspiration from the vibrant and secretive bird phoenix.
Another collection that came with an Indian feel was that of Rashi Kappor’s. Rashi used blue, white, green and gold. Peacock motifs dominated her collection, a tribute to the divine love of Radha and Krishna.
The vibrancy of colours was reflected in ‘Price and Prejudice’, a collection by Pranidh Dhillon. The purple and gold brocade and raw silk outfits reflected Indian culture and a woman’s pride.
Zeena’s fashion experiment described a cocooned mind. The timeless white and blue were used in her collection. From chaos to freedom was her theme.
Another contender, Kanchana, based her work on lines. In this collection lines were created by alteration of textures.
There were also collections that drew inspiration from nature. Tenzin Pema’s collection based on honey combs, used earthy colours and created a mood of cheerfulness. There was also Pavan’s work that was inspired by cabbage and Thongroi’s spring-summer party wears that drew inspiration from insects.
Sagar’s flexi collection which came next was a hit with the audience. Brown, black and beige were used for the corduroy collection titled ‘Chameleon’. The detachable outfits best suited the tastes of fashion conscious professionals.
The students of jewellery design were not far behind their counterparts. Gold, silver, shells, corals, onyx, kundan, raw silk, turquoise, zircon stones… were used in the crown, necklace, armlet, finger ring and earrings that the models showcased. Sandra, Rajesh and Khaisur, Apexa V Jhaveri, Swathi and Rathi Raju, Janki Masturlal, Anita Lunia and Sree Poornima were the contenders. All in all the show was a preview of the future fashion industry.
