Celebration galore

Shirdi Sai Engineering College celebrated its 11th annual day recently at its campus at Sai Leo Nagar, Samandur Post, Anekal. The programme started at 10.30 am with an invocation. The dignitaries lit the lamp and the Principal, T V Govindaraju, welcomed the gathering. S R Sridhar placed the annual report of the college. Chief guest S Sadagopan, Director, HIT, released the College Souvenir ‘Sai Spandana’. The chief guests gave two poignant key note addresses packed with advice to the student community.  S Sadagopan made his address a very interactive one and enlightened the students about the current scenario and opportunities in IT and other sectors.  A K Pattabiraman, in his address, stressed on commitment and hardwork. T R B Rajaa, Chairman, Kings College of  Engineering, Tanjavur, in his special address stressed on the importance of acquiring knowledge.

Sai Prakash Leo Muthu, Managing Trustee, Sri Sai Ram Group of Institutions and Industries congratulated the staff and students for the advancement made during the year 2006-07, in his presidential address. Prizes and cash awards were given to staff and students who had excelled in academics and sports. M Prabhakar, proposed the vote of thanks.The students exhibited their talents in the cultural events which had the central theme ‘Save the Tiger’ species.

Colourful and joyous

The sixth annual day of City College, Jayanagar was celebrated with much fanfare on April 12. The guests of honour for the day were Ramnarayan, general manager, Sony (India) Software Centre and  Ravi S (IPS), Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bangalore South. Ramnarayan established an instant rapport with the audience with his entertaining speech while Ravi's words were centred around the message — ‘With great power comes great responsibility’. The Chairman of AMC group of institutions,  Paramahamsa emphasised on the role of youth in building the society.  Vijayalakshmi, Principal, read the annual college report highlighting the achievements of the students of each department. The guests of honour later gave away the prizes for proficiency, sports and cultural activities.

The students put up a variety of entertainment programmes, which included dance, drama and music. The dances choreographed by Ashwin of the Rockers troupe and those choreographed by the students were received with much enthusiasm by the crowd, as was the hilarious skit featuring characters like Amitabh Bacchan, Vajpayee, Mangal Pandey and Munnabhai. The highlight of the colourful evening was a musical play focusing on the theme of communal harmony in India.

Award for diplomacy

Lt General Anbaree Abdul Sattar Adam, High Commissioner of Maldives to India was the chief guest at the fifth edition of Gardenia Internationale 2008. Organised under the aegis of the international student community of Garden City College (GCC), students from Maldives studying in the City put up a scintillating show showcasing the island nation's cultural mores before an appreciative audience. As many as 65 different nationalities from in and around Bangalore took part in the day-long fest. It was another occasion for the hosts to witness the myriad facets of arts and expression of lifestyles through the medium of dance and music. Students from all the six continents represented. The highlight of the evening was the conferment of the newly instituted Garden Global Leadership Award for Diplomacy on Lt Gen Sattar Adam by Joseph V G, Chairman, Garden City Group of Institutions, much to the delight of Maldivian students in particular and other nationals in general. Lt Gen Sattar Adam has made invaluable contributions towards strengthening the diplomatic relations between India and Maldives and considers Bangalore a home away from home. Appreciating his contributions, Joseph V G described him as 'a gentleman and one the finest diplomats in the country’. The Garden Global Leadership Awards is one of the eight category awards constituted by a special research team from the Garden City Foundation to honour individuals making a difference to the City. The jury will select leaders in diverse fields for the same.
The winning teams at the event were Bhutan in the 'Folk Dance Category, Uganda for 'My Sovereign Territory', a Country Stalls contest and Kenyan students from Mysore University took the Ethnic Fashion Show award.



College festival

REVA Institute of Technology and Management organised the ‘REVAMP '08’ (Inter-Collegiate Techno-Fest) at Reva ITM Campus, Kattigenahalli, Yelahanka. Rana Pratap Reddy, Principal, Reva ITM gave the welcome speech. L Krishnananda, Department of Information Science gave the bird’s eye view on the ‘Revamo '08’ held recently at the campus. H P Kincha, Vice-Chancellor, VTU, Belgaum was the chief guest. He threw light on what being an engineer means. He asked the students to develop their right attitude during their four-year stay in the institution and develop networking capability, professionalism, cultural gene. He said along with education, the students should develop holistic individuality. He said students should develop leadership values like self food, dedication and contribution and also said that Bangalore is also known for its four Cs ie intellectual capital, venture capital, support capital and cultural capital. He suggested upon the importance of industry -- institute interaction for the growth and development of the society. He advised the students to acquire wealth of knowledge rather than concentrating on earning money. P Shyama Raju, Chairman, Reva group of Educational Institution, presided over the function. Latha S Raju, CEO, Reva group of educational institution; N Ramesh, Principal, RISM were also present. H D Maheshappa, head, Department of E and C, presented the vote of thanks.


Showcasing talents

Varchasva 08, an inter-collegiate techno-cultural fest  was inaugurated by Venkataramana  K Neelam, vice-chairman, BGS Global Hospitals. The event was presided by Sri Sri Prakashanatha Swamiji, Managing Director, SJBIT, in the presence of  Meera Krishna Swamy, Principal, BGSPS and Purtaraju, Principal, SJBIT, and  Babu N V Convener of  Varchasva, SJBIT. The fest provided a platform for participants from various technological Institutes affiliated to VTU. The fest comprising various competitions like free style dance, mad ads, singing, rangoli, collage, quiz and gaming was witnessed by number of celebrities and a huge crowd. The participants from the various institutes felt that the fest was an opportunity to showcase their talents as it provided a great competitive platform.  The competitive fest had its glorious end with the rocking performance from Bangalore-based Hindi rock band Vinapra
